Yorgos Kyriakou brings “Yorkos the Comically Cypriot” back to Cyprus after international tour

Stantar Kkomety’s artistic director and resident comic Yorgos Kyriakou is bringing his internationally toured stand-up show back to Cyprus, with an updated performance of “Yorkos the Comically Cypriot” at Hangar Culture Space in occupied Nicosia.

The show comes fresh from shows in Brussels, New York and Canada, where Kyriakou collected new material, confused other countries, and survived airports, accents, immigration lines and international misunderstandings — all of which have now made it onto the stage.

The venue sits just past the Ledra Street checkpoint — cross it, says Kyriakou, and head in the same direction Cypriots went politically to get the checkpoints created in the first place: far right.

Audiences who have seen Kyriakou before can come and see what the world has done to him. Those who haven’t are, in his words, making an excellent time to make questionable decisions.
