City Friends Club organises cleanup drive for World Cleanup Day

City Friends Club will run three simultaneous cleanups in Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos on September 19, inviting volunteers to help clear litter from public spaces as part of World Cleanup Day.

The cleanups form part of a global movement held in more than 190 countries that aims to tackle waste pollution. Everything collected in Cyprus will count towards the worldwide World Cleanup Day results, which will be published on the event’s website afterwards.

The events run from 8am to 10:30am. Volunteers will gather for a briefing and equipment distribution between 8am and 8:20am, clean up until 10am, take a group photo, and then have half an hour to rest and socialise.

The Limassol cleanup will take place at the Lady’s Mile area, the Larnaca cleanup behind the AJK building, and the Paphos cleanup at the Kissonerga coastal area.

Organisers will provide garbage bags and gloves and ask volunteers to bring their own reusable water bottle. City Friends Club recommends comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes and a hat, and says the cleanups are open to children and pets.

Each cleanup will include music from ION and Lubimaya, along with photographers documenting the event and surprises from CFC’s partners. Volunteers will be offered snacks and drinks afterwards.

The Limassol cleanup is supported by AdTech Holding, an international group of adtech companies with its team based in Limassol, which regularly backs local environmental and community initiatives.

Volunteers can get in touch by contacting Alexandra in Larnaca on +357 957 42196, or Inga in Limassol and Paphos on +357 97647344.

City Friends Club has also released an app, available on the Apple Store and Google Play, that lets residents report illegal dumping and waste in their communities year-round.

City Friends Club has been active since 2021, cleaning Limassol with six trucks and 15 cleaners and running monthly cleanups for volunteers and companies in parks and on beaches. The organisation says it has collected 465,640 kilograms of waste since 2021, working with professional cleaners and more than 3,000 volunteers. Its educational work includes a National School Environmental Curriculum, the Coffee Friends Club and Graffiti Friends Club initiatives, public talks and the RE:SOURCE eco-art exhibition. Its app has more than 1,900 users.
