Paphos, ART BY THE SEA, St George Garden (Chloraka). A new art space opens in Paphos with the group exhibition Between Land & Sea, featuring 27 artists from Cyprus. Opening: Wednesday, May 6, 6pm.

Screenings

Nicosia, Pantheon. The Goethe Institut screens When Will It Be Again Like It Never Was Before, directed by Sonja Heiss and based on the bestselling autobiographical novel by Joachim Meyerhoff, as part of its EUROPE IN CINEMA series. A coming-of-age story following the youngest son of the director of one of Germany’s largest psychiatric hospitals, who grows up among the patients on the grounds. 8.30pm. 116 minutes.

Cultural Capital

Larnaca, Agiou Lazarou Allilodidaskaleiou Hall, May 6–8. The 16th conference of the Culture Next Network, taking place in Cyprus for the first time and organised by Larnaka 2030, brings together representatives from across the European cultural sector. Topics include cultural policy and the experiences of artists working in conflict zones, exploring art as a tool for resilience, expression, and social cohesion. Open to the public: Thursday, May 7. Free entry. The conference will be held in English.

Cavafy Tribute

Nicosia, Ena Theatre, 8pm. An evening dedicated to Konstantinos Cavafy. Writer and Ena Theatre board president Dimitris Karagiannis will speak about the poet, with readings by researcher and writer Kostas Charalambidis and Stavri Kalopsidiotis. Pianist Glykeria Andreou will perform.

Books

Nicosia, Roes Cultural Space, 7.30pm. The Literary and Critical Society (OLK), the Cyprus Writers’ Union (ELK), and Koukkida publishing present the poetry collection Letter to Kyriakos Charalambidis by Kleopatra Makridou-Robinet. Speakers: Kyriakos Ioannou, OLK president and lecturer at the University of the Peloponnese, and Evi Zorpidou, ELK secretary and poet.
