From a Cyprus premiere exploring the hidden life of a poet’s mother to a philosophical face-off between C.S. Lewis and Sigmund Freud, Nicosia’s stages offer something thought-provoking this week. Gallery walls across the island are equally busy, with exhibitions running from ecological art at NiMAC to a long-overdue retrospective of a Cypriot master. And at the Pantheon, Ryan Coogler’s darkly atmospheric Sinners brings one of the year’s most talked-about films to the big screen.

The work of Pericles Moscholidakis receives its Cyprus premiere in a new staging by director Marina Vronti that transforms the original monologue into a polyphonic, poetic ensemble. Produced by Theatro Lexi, the production centres on Angeliki Nikli — mother of the Greek national poet Dionysios Solomos — in an attempt to retrieve from the shadows a woman who remained on the margins of history. Cast: Christina Pavlidou, Nektarios Theodorou, Giota Maragkou, Maria Tsiakka and Andreas Theocharis. Running time: 85 minutes. Tickets: SoldOutTickets.
