For the first time in the history of Cyprus, one of the world’s most celebrated opera stars will perform on the island. Internationally acclaimed soprano Aida Garifullina — soloist of the Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera (New York) — will give two exclusive concerts at the legendary Ancient Amphitheatre of Kurium on 9 and 10 October 2026, at 20:00.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Aida Garifullina is one of the most brilliant and sought-after sopranos of our time. Winner of the prestigious Operalia competition founded by Plácido Domingo, exclusive recording artist of the legendary label Decca Records — the label of Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli — and recipient of the ECHO Klassik award.
Her voice has graced the stages of the world’s greatest opera houses: La Scala (Milan), the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (London), the Metropolitan Opera (New York), the Vienna State Opera, and the Opéra National de Paris. She has performed alongside the greatest artists of the era, including Andrea Bocelli and Plácido Domingo.
In 2018, Aida Garifullina joined Robbie Williams to open the FIFA World Cup at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow — a performance watched live by over 3 billion viewers worldwide, making it one of the most-watched musical events in history.
In the current 2025/2026 season, Garifullina is performing leading roles at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (London) and the Opéra de Paris. The arrival of an artist of this magnitude in Cyprus is an event of exceptional cultural significance.
THE VENUE
The Ancient Amphitheatre of Kurion is one of the most breathtaking concert venues on the planet. Built in the 2nd century BC, the amphitheatre stands on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea near Limassol. The unique acoustics created by ancient Greek architects, the panorama of the endless sea, and the starlit sky create an atmosphere that no concert hall in the world can replicate. With a capacity of just 1,500 seats, each evening promises an intimate and exclusive experience.
THE PROGRAMME
The concert programme brings together masterpieces of world opera and classical music: the Habanera from Carmen (Bizet), Juliet’s Waltz (Gounod), “O soave fanciulla” from La Bohème and Lauretta’s aria from Gianni Schicchi (Puccini), the Voices of Spring waltz (Strauss), arias from Eugene Onegin and Iolanta (Tchaikovsky), the Brindisi from La Traviata (Verdi), and other jewels of the world repertoire.
Joining Aida Garifullina on stage will be tenor Kirill Sikora and baritone Semyon Antakov, accompanied by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra under the baton of its Artistic Director and conductor Myron Michailidis.
