Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis on Monday described the visit of UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix as significant, saying it demonstrated that the United Nations’ commitment to Cyprus remained undiminished.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis said the visit was planned and that Lacroix’s meeting with President Nikos Christodoulides on Tuesday would include an exchange of views on the latest developments on the Cyprus problem, the UN Secretary-General’s efforts, and recent violations by the occupation army.

Letymbiotis said the fact that Lacroix was visiting Cyprus was important, adding that it “shows the UN’s commitment and that it remains undiminished.”

The UN in Cyprus confirmed Lacroix’s arrival in a post on X, describing him as the head of the UN peacekeeping mission and noting he had arrived for a two-day UNFICYP visit.

During his stay, Lacroix is scheduled to meet UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Cyprus and UNFICYP Head Khassim Diagne, military peacekeepers, UNPOL police, and representatives of both communities and civil society.
