Every August, key positions in government departments just vanish, and it’s honestly hard to believe. Of course officials are entitled to take their leave in the blistering summer month. But in departments where, by the very nature of the job, work doesn’t stop in August, you cannot leave the department uncovered because someone’s leave was “already scheduled.”
There are ways to sort this out for everyone. But the work that has to get done, for the public’s sake, has to actually get done. Not have the shop pull its shutters down every single August.
