The trial of Giorgos Tattis and Oz Karahan — prosecuted for offences related to hanging a banner reading “REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS: THE ONLY SOLUTION” at the October 1, 2024 parade — lurches from one adjournment to the next.
This time the prosecution witnesses failed to appear, and the farce continued. A farce, because nobody is prepared to take responsibility for dropping the charges and putting an end to a saga that makes a mockery of democracy and justice alike.
And because neither the Law Office nor the Presidential Palace has the nerve to withdraw the case, Tattis and Karahan — who honour democracy as few do — are dragged back to court every other week. So that what we call “Cypriot justice” can embarrass itself a little further.
Justice? Hardly.
