London Cypriots rally over activists’ arrest in independence day parade

Protesters gathered outside the Cyprus High Commission in London on Thursday to show solidarity with activists Oz Karahan and George Tattis, who were arrested during Cyprus independence day celebrations on October 1, 2024.

The demonstrators displayed the same banner that led to the activists’ arrest, reading “Republic of Cyprus: The Only Solution” and “Apartheid is not a solution.”

The protest included both Greek and Turkish Cypriots.

Karahan and Tattis are scheduled to appear at Nicosia District Court on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 08:30. The activists were allegedly arrested forcefully and unlawfully while attempting to display their banner during the official celebrations.

A group spokesperson made a solidarity statement during the London demonstration.
