Tensions continued today in Deneia after Greek Cypriot farmers were prevented from cultivating their fields in the buffer zone.
Former community leader Christakis Panayiotou told Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that around 7 am, soldiers with 4-5 vehicles and farmers from the north entered the buffer zone as Greek Cypriot farmers were preparing to cultivate their fields, a practice they have maintained for the past 15 years.
“The United Nations are currently on site discussing with the occupying authorities, and we expect a response from the UN around noon”, Panayiotou said.

According to Panayiotou, the disputed area comprises approximately 150 donums (20 hectares) of farmland that has been cultivated for 15 years with European Union subsidies through the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organisation.
Police and military personnel are present in the area, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been notified of the incident, he added.
