President Nikos Christodoulides met with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Mansion in Athens, following his Wednesday meeting with Joe Biden at the White House.

Welcoming Christodoulides, Mitsotakis congratulated him on the significant achievement of being received at the White House – the first Cypriot president to do so in 28 years. He noted this confirmed Cyprus’s strategic relationship with the US, parallel to Greece’s own strategic partnership.

Mitsotakis emphasised that US recognition of the need for a fair and viable solution to the Cyprus problem, within UN Security Council parameters, adds momentum to recent diplomatic progress.

“Within the framework of this trilateral cooperation, I believe that the US voice, which recognises that the time has now come for a fair and viable solution to the Cyprus problem within the parameters of UN Security Council resolutions, represents another significant moment adding to the momentum that has been building in recent months”, Mitsotakis said.

Christodoulides described his Washington visit as “historic” and highlighted American recognition of the roles Cyprus and Greece play in the region. “We are on the right side of history”, he stated, adding that this strengthens efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue at a critical juncture.

The Cypriot president expressed satisfaction with Athens-Nicosia relations, noting both capitals are pursuing common strategic goals and objectives. “I am pleased that throughout this period we are implementing a strategy that delivers results”, he said.

The meeting underscored the close coordination between Cyprus and Greece following Christodoulides’ landmark White House visit, which marked the first such meeting between US and Cypriot leaders since 1996.
