Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the significance of yesterday’s meeting between President Christodoulides and US President Joe Biden during his opening remarks at a cabinet meeting.

Mitsotakis, who was scheduled to meet President Christodoulides later in the day, noted that the White House meeting marked “the first visit by a Cypriot leader in 28 years”.

“This is significant evidence of the upgrading of relations between Cyprus and the United States, as well as its importance as a pole of stability in an unstable environment of conflicts, which unfortunately continue in the Middle East”, the Greek premier said.

He added that the meeting demonstrated “the benefits of active diplomacy based on continuous coordination between Athens and Nicosia”.

Addressing the Cyprus issue, Mitsotakis stated: “I do not want to appear either optimistic or pessimistic, but I maintain one observation: from a point of international stagnation, Cyprus and the resolution of the Cyprus issue is now being viewed as part of the solution in the equation of the most sensitive region on the global map, and I hope this change in perspective can translate into a turning of the page”.
