Online scammers are using a fake Facebook profile bearing the name and picture of Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides to defraud citizens and extract money, authorities said.
The fraudulent profile shares posts from the official Cyprus Government account while also sending private messages to users referencing supposed “grants” and requesting phone numbers and email addresses, according to a complaint filed with police.
Police are investigating the case.
