Pro-Palestine demonstrators marched through Nicosia on Sunday calling for an end to the Gaza conflict and criticising Britain’s military presence in Cyprus.
Protesters of all ages carried flags and placards with slogans including “Freedom for Palestine. Stop the genocide” during the demonstration.
The rally, titled “Global Rally Against this supply chain of death”, began outside Nicosia District Court and proceeded towards the British High Commission.
Protesters target British bases in Cyprus over Middle East role
Several placards specifically targeted the UK’s Sovereign Base Areas in Cyprus. “Bases of destruction and death, out of our land,” read one banner, whilst another stated: “The British Bases in cooperation with Israel commit crimes against humanity”.
“Stop supporting the murders of innocent people and children,” was among the messages directed at British authorities by demonstrators.
