President to end Health Minister-Permanent Secretary public row possibly on Thursday

President Nikos Christodoulides is meeting the island’s Health Minister and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary in a bid to put an end to the ongoing public row between them possibly on Thursday, informed sources told Philenews.

The President has already contemplated alternative solutions but he will first listen to the explanations to be given by both Health Minister Popi Kanari and by Christina Yiannaki.

For days now, Kanari and Yiannaki have been engaged in a very public war of words when the Minister called on Yiannaki to provide proof of her dentistry degree from Cairo university.

As well as proof that she could speak English – a prerequisite when in such a high position in the public service. Yiannaki has so far refused.

Sources close to the Presidency said Christodoulides considers the leaked content of the correspondence between Kanari and Yiannaki as unacceptable.

And that he has already conveyed to both of them his discontent over the state of play prevailing at the Health Ministry.

The message sent is that both should exert all their energy on solving problems prevailing in the health sector rather than being consumed in a battle mutual assured destruction.
