Cyprus has heightened security measures following Iran’s missile attack on Israel, which was launched in retaliation for the killing of Hassan Nasrallah.
The National Security Council convened at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday to discuss the country’s response to escalating regional tensions.
Officials have activated the “Estia” plan to its highest level, implementing comprehensive measures to safeguard both Cypriot citizens and foreign interests on the island.
A government source told Phileleftheros that security forces are operating at maximum readiness, with intensified surveillance of maritime borders and the buffer zone.
Additional security protocols have been established for key infrastructure, including airports, ports, synagogues, foreign schools and embassies, the source said.
Authorities have also made provisions for Lebanese arrivals in Ayia Napa to receive standard visas for legal entry into Cyprus.
Police remain on high alert and are coordinating with various services and foreign missions on the island to address potential developments, officials said.
The government indicated that evacuation arrangements for Cypriots in Lebanon would be determined based on the number of individuals requiring assistance.
