Larnaca Police are examining CCTV footage from multiple locations following an attempted murder in Pyla, where a 49-year-old man was shot in the leg by a masked gunman outside his home shortly after midnight on Monday.

The victim underwent surgery at Nicosia General Hospital for a penetrating wound to his right lower leg after the attacker fired two shots with a pistol. One bullet struck the victim whilst another was recovered from a suitcase at the scene.

Police sources indicate the gunman’s escape route remains unclear, with no evidence yet confirming accomplice involvement, though this possibility has not been ruled out. The perpetrator wore a mask during the attack, but authorities hope CCTV analysis will provide investigative leads.

The victim’s statement has not directed inquiries toward specific individuals, with police sources noting he continues to maintain he suspects no one, consistent with his written testimony. Investigators are pursuing several lines of inquiry as motives remain unclear.

Police have not excluded the possibility of a criminal settling of accounts. The victim’s professional activities are under scrutiny, with a focus on his background and relationships with particular individuals.

The shooting occurred as the victim returned home with his partner and her 12-year-old daughter, whom he had collected from the airport. The masked gunman opened fire immediately after the family exited their vehicle in the house’s courtyard.

Police believe the attacker may have had a contract to kill the 49-year-old but either missed his target, experienced weapon malfunction, or altered his plan due to the presence of the victim’s partner and child.

Investigators await forensic examination results from both bullets recovered at the scene and other evidence collected. The victim was initially treated at Larnaca General Hospital before being transferred to Nicosia for surgery.
