The Cyprus Peace Council has announced protests against Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s visit to the island tomorrow.
Two simultaneous demonstrations will be held on Thursday, 9 January – one at Larnaca Airport roundabout at 16:00 and another at the Presidential Palace entrance in Nicosia at 16:30.
The council described Herzog’s visit as provocative, calling for public participation to demonstrate opposition to what it termed “the policy of extermination of the Palestinian people”.
The organisation said Herzog’s visit is particularly contentious given Cyprus’s own experience with occupation. It demands an end to military operations in Palestine and Lebanon.
The Cyprus Peace Council will stage the protests under the slogan “Stop the War – Stop the Genocide”.
