A parliamentary vote on two significant higher education reforms could take place as early as Thursday, November 28, pending completion of discussions.
The proposed legislation would allow foreign universities to establish branches in Cyprus and permit public universities to offer undergraduate programmes in foreign languages.
Both measures, which have generated considerable debate among stakeholders, will undergo article-by-article review today in the parliamentary education committee.
The committee will also consider a proposal from AKEL party MPs requiring new private universities to submit bank guarantees when registering and obtaining operational licences, an issue that emerged during discussions about foreign university branches.
If discussions conclude as planned, the proposals could advance to a full parliamentary vote at the next plenary session.
