The Nicosia Municipal Swimming Pool has reopened after a temporary closure of its large pool on Sunday, 20 July 2025.
The Nicosia Municipality announced on Sunday that the large pool was closed for the day to implement public health protection measures.
The decision to close the large pool was made after human waste was discovered in the water by an individual using the pool on Sunday morning. Regulations in such cases require the pool to be emptied, cleaned, and reopened.
In a statement on Monday, the municipality confirmed that “all necessary actions have been completed to ensure the public health of swimmers.”
The swimming pool had been largely closed since September 2021 for extensive renovation works. Its main pool was completed in December 2023, initially opened for competitive swimmers. Following the completion of work on other sections, the facility had been operational exclusively for swimming athletes until its full public reopening.
