The Nicosia Municipal Swimming Pool, commonly known as “Lellos’s pool,” has been temporarily closed, at least for today, Sunday.

The Nicosia Municipality announced today that due to the implementation of emergency public health protection measures, the large pool of the Nicosia Municipal Swimming Pool will remain closed to the public today. However, it noted that the small pool is operating normally.

According to information from “Phileleftheros,” the decision was made because human waste was found in the pool from an individual who used the pool this morning but has not yet been identified. In such cases, the law mandates evacuation, cleaning, and reopening the following day.

The swimming pool, or “Lellos’s pool” as it’s widely known, had remained closed for several years, as it suspended operations in September 2021 due to necessary renovation work on its facilities. In December 2023, the reconstruction of the municipal pool was completed, which was then handed over for use by competitive swimmers. Following the completion of work on the other pools, the swimming pool had been operating only for athletes.
