Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN) officers arrested a 35-year-old man in Nicosia district yesterday after searching his home under a court warrant and finding a cannabis-growing operation along with suspected cocaine.

The search was part of YKAN’s ongoing efforts to crack down on drug possession, cultivation and trafficking. Officers uncovered two specially built greenhouses in one room of the property, where nine cannabis plants, between 115 and 190 centimetres tall, were growing.

They also found and seized roughly 1.615 kilograms of cannabis, around 90 grams of a white powder believed to be cocaine, and a set of precision scales.

Officers also confiscated various machinery and equipment used to control temperature and humidity, along with watering hoses and other equipment from the property.
The man was arrested for offences committed in the act and is expected to appear before Nicosia District Court today for a remand order.
YKAN’s Morphou branch is continuing the investigation.
