The new Nicosia ring road (A22) recorded 380,000 vehicles during October, according to data released by the Ministry of Transport, reducing traffic on other major routes into the capital.
The highway currently handles approximately 17,000 vehicles daily in both directions, with peak morning traffic (07:00-09:00) reaching 2,600 vehicles, the ministry reported.
The new route has had a notable impact on traffic patterns, with the E120 road (A1 to Tseri, Halepianes road) seeing a 40% reduction in daily traffic. The Nicosia-Limassol motorway (A1) recorded a 12% decrease in morning rush hour traffic (07:00-08:00), while Spyros Kyprianou Avenue experienced a 10% reduction.
The Department of Public Works continues to monitor traffic patterns through permanent traffic counters installed across the road network at Nicosia’s entrance points.
