Police find further 260kg of suspected ketamine in Limassol

A Limassol drug case is growing to enormous proportions after police found a further 260kg of suspected narcotics in a customs clearance warehouse near the port, on top of the 126kg discovered on Saturday.

At first glance, the substance appears to be the same as before, ketamine, and as in the earlier case, the country of origin is Germany. The drugs were also found concealed in building materials.

The Anti-Drugs Unit (YKAN) is convinced the case is linked to Saturday’s seizure, over which four people were arrested, two couples, from Palestine and Israel. They appeared before Limassol District Court yesterday, September 13, where an eight-day remand order was issued.

Police were led to the new quantity after searching the suspects’ homes, where they appear to have found documents linked to the warehouse.

Information used by investigators pointed to a criminal group made up of Israelis and people of Arab origin, alleged to have imported and trafficked drugs from Israel to Cyprus. According to the case details, the drugs were transported using superyachts, which used marinas and ports in Larnaca and Limassol.
