The Municipality of Larnaca will erect a state-of-the-art Elderly Care Center for low-income retirees, securing funding for its operational expenses in the initial years.
The goal is to keep food costs symbolic or even zero.
The building will incorporate advanced technology systems for energy efficiency and will include facilities such as a hair salon and barber for the care of retirees.
The contract for the project was signed on Wednesday at the Larnaca House of Arts and Letters.
According to the Municipality of Larnaca, the new Elderly Care Center aims to serve low-income retirees who primarily need care in a suitable environment.
It aims to improve living conditions for retirees, considering the challenges faced by the elderly, significantly impacting their quality of life, particularly due to the economic crisis.
The project will be implemented after demolishing the existing Elderly Care Center.
The new modern building will accommodate communal spaces on the ground floor (reception area, office, clinic, staff hygiene facilities, men’s and women’s hygiene areas, personal care spaces, dining area, entertainment area, kitchen, staff area, vertical circulation), and on the first and second floors, a total of 22 double rooms and 4 single rooms accommodating a total of 48 residents.
Plans also include the establishment of a hair salon/barber for elderly care and a large garden for gardening activities.
Additionally, photovoltaic panels, advanced lighting, and smart systems to address hearing-impaired interventions are planned.
The project’s completion time is 18 months, expected to be finished by the second half of 2025. The estimated cost is €3,480,889 + VAT.
The new Municipal Elderly Care Center is part of the priority projects of the Integrated Spatial Development Strategy (ISDS) of Larnaca and may be co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF+) under the Cohesion Policy Program “THALEIA 2021-2027.”
