Larnaca Municipality is ramping up efforts to combat the mosquito population, with spraying operations and public awareness campaigns in full swing.
Teams from the municipality’s Health Service are conducting spraying operations in key areas, focusing on storm drains and open water channels.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health is carrying out door-to-door campaigns to educate residents about the Aedes aegypti mosquito and preventive measures.
The municipality has urged residents to be vigilant in their homes and businesses, as even small amounts of stagnant water can provide breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Particular attention should be paid to swimming pools, sewage pits, construction sites, car tyres, water storage barrels, and blocked storm drains.
Residents are also encouraged to regularly remove old tyres and ensure that flower vases in cemeteries are drained to prevent water stagnation.
The municipality emphasises the importance of these measures, as the types of mosquitoes present in Cyprus can transmit dangerous diseases such as Yellow Fever, Dengue Fever, Zika virus, and West Nile virus.
For any information or complaints, the public can contact the Larnaca Municipality Complaints Office at 24816530 or the Health Service at 24816557/559/562.
