Larnaca municipality has expressed “deep sorrow and indignation” over the recent destruction of trees in a green space adjacent to Vergina gymnasium, condemning unknown vandals who damaged newly planted vegetation.

The municipality said in a statement on Wednesday that unidentified individuals had vandalised several trees planted as part of efforts to upgrade urban green spaces in the area.

“The municipality invests significant resources and efforts in developing green spaces and creating environmentally and citizen-friendly areas,” the statement read.

“Such destructive actions not only devalue the work being done, but also deprive our city of valuable natural wealth and recreational spaces”.

The damaged trees were part of the municipality’s broader initiative to enhance Larnaca’s urban environment and provide residents with improved green recreational areas.

Appeal for civic responsibility

Larnaca municipality called on all residents to show respect for public spaces and contribute to environmental conservation and protection.

“It is everyone’s duty to ensure that such acts are not repeated. The protection of public property is a collective responsibility, and we must all be active citizens,” the statement concluded.
