Larnaca Airport targeted by hackers in unsuccessful cyberattack

Relevant News

Hackers have attempted to disrupt Larnaca International Airport’s operations by targeting its website, fulfilling threats to attack infrastructure and strategic targets in Cyprus.

The hackers claim their actions are in response to Cypriot support for Israel.

A spokesperson for Hermers Airports told philenews that the airport’s website system had been hit by hackers.

However, they emphasised that the attack did not affect air traffic, arrivals, or departures, as the website is not connected to the airport’s operational systems.

The issue was quickly resolved without disrupting normal airport functions.

Cybersecurity experts had been warning of potential attacks on strategic targets from October 17.

George Michaelidis, the Commissioner for Communications, explained in an interview on Ant1 TV that whilst cyberattacks may occur regularly, they are not always successful.

He stated that there is ongoing monitoring and authorities remain on high alert.
