Cybersecurity firm Odyssey has issued a threat warning for Cyprus, citing an imminent attack on the country’s critical infrastructure by the hacking group LulzSec Black.
In a statement released Tuesday, Odyssey said the politically motivated cyberattack is scheduled for October 17, targeting government, financial, and critical services across Cyprus.
The threat is believed to be in response to Cyprus’s relationship with Israel, according to the cybersecurity experts.
“A planned cyberattack targeting the infrastructure of Cyprus is scheduled for 17th October 2024, with potential tactics including distributed denial of service (DDoS), data breaches, and other exploitation techniques”, Odyssey said.
The firm also noted that another group, “Moroccan Soldiers”, has pledged support to LulzSec Black in these operations, further intensifying the threat.
Organisations in Cyprus are being urged to update critical systems, enhance network traffic monitoring, and prepare for potential DDoS attacks.
