The approval for the humanitarian corridor from Cyprus to Gaza has been granted by Israel, according to reports from Israeli media.

The Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eli Cohen, informed his counterparts in Cyprus and the UK about his decision to proceed with the preliminary approval of the operation of the maritime humanitarian corridor.

The Israeli newspaper “Israel Hayom,” in its publication, refers to Israel’s decision to give preliminary approval for the establishment of a humanitarian corridor between Cyprus and the Gaza Strip.

According to the report on Tuesday, Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen informed his counterparts in Nicosia and London. He mentioned that the missions could commence through the route with the completion of the necessary preparations.

Last week, the Israeli Foreign Minister visited Larnaca along with his Cypriot counterpart, Constantinos Kombos, where they visited the city’s port and the “Zinon” coordination center. Larnaca will be the starting point for the maritime humanitarian corridor.

As reported in Israeli media, the plan envisages that after inspection in Larnaca (as part of cooperation between Cypriot and Israeli authorities) and receiving approval from Israel, the goods will be transported by ships to Al-Mawasi, located on the southern coast of the Gaza Strip.

This humanitarian corridor will replace the Erez and Kerem Shalom crossings, ensuring that supplies for Gaza residents are no longer transferred through Israel, both during and after hostilities.

The first installment of humanitarian aid under the “Amalthea” program initiated by the Cypriot government is already on the British amphibious ship RFA Lyme Bay. After departing from Larnaca, the ship stayed off the coast of Cyprus for a brief 24 hours awaiting final approval from Israel.

It then proceeded to Malta, where it remained over Christmas, awaiting instructions to redirect towards Gaza.
