Police are investigating reports that an unknown man is posing as a police officer to scam elderly residents in Kalo Chorio, Larnaca, with two cases reported so far.
According to police information, the man is believed to have obtained €50 in one case and €5 in another.
Authorities are trying to locate the two elderly people involved so the incidents can be investigated.
Police are also examining whether the suspect could be linked to similar offences reported recently in Nicosia, although no connection has yet been confirmed.
The case came to light after the Kalo Chorio Larnaca Community Council posted a warning on social media about a person pretending to be a police officer and attempting to obtain money from elderly residents.
The council urged residents to be particularly cautious and to warn elderly relatives in an effort to prevent further scams.
“We ask all residents to be particularly careful. Do not give money or personal information to strangers, and if you notice anything suspicious, contact the police immediately,” the council said in its post.
