The Democratic Alignment (DEPA) is mounting an aggressive early campaign for Cyprus’s 2026 parliamentary elections, with party leader Marios Garoyian seeking to ensure the party’s survival following disappointing results in European elections.
The party’s Political Bureau has outlined a roadmap centred on its Political Conference, scheduled for late February or early March, which will serve as a launch pad for both organisational and political initiatives.
Key measures include early candidate selection, with the party leader reporting advanced talks with potential parliamentary candidates who could be unveiled at the conference.
The party is also restructuring its community engagement through new local and district committees, while rebuilding connections with former members and supporters.
The Political Conference will focus on establishing clear policy positions to differentiate DEPA from other parties, particularly those in the same ideological space.
Additionally, the party plans to activate its Women’s Organisation and revitalise its youth wing before the conference.
The party aims to match its previous parliamentary election performance rather than its recent European election results, viewing the 2026 contest as crucial for its political survival.
