The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) has called on the Cyprus Footballers’ Association (PASP) to immediately report all evidence related to alleged sexual harassment of a female player by a member of her team’s coaching staff to the police.
In a written statement, CFA spokesman Constantinos Shiamboullis described the matter as “extremely serious” and said it requires proper handling by all parties involved.
The federation emphasised that such complaints should be directed to law enforcement authorities rather than becoming subject to public debate.
“The CFA unequivocally condemns any form of abuse or harassment in sports and stands ready to provide all possible support and assistance to anyone who has experienced such behaviour, within the scope of its responsibilities”, Shiamboullis said.
The football authority stressed that further public discussion of the matter could be harmful and urged PASP to follow proper investigative procedures through relevant authorities.
The statement comes in response to a letter and public statements made by PASP regarding the incident.
