A fire is burning out of control in a difficult-to-reach area south of Kouris dam, the Fire Service reported on Tuesday.
Firefighting efforts have been hampered by strong winds in the region, with the blaze moving southward, officials said.
Fire crews are being continuously reinforced, with excavators deployed to assist firefighters in the rough terrain. Five vehicles from Limassol’s Fire Service are responding to the incident, supported by Department of Forests vehicles.
The fire has spread through dry grass, wild vegetation and a number of trees in hard-to-access terrain and within the river area.
The Limassol District Officer and the Chief Fire Officer have arrived at the scene to better coordinate response efforts, whilst teams continue intensive efforts to contain the blaze. The Minister of Justice is also at the location.
