A large fire is currently under way in the agricultural area of the Choletria community, in Paphos, prompting the immediate mobilisation of firefighting forces.
According to Police, preliminary examinations indicate the fire broke out around 1pm. Ground forces are working to put it out, with the assistance of Forestry Department aircraft.
Strong winds blowing in the area are significantly hampering the firefighting operation, as the fire burns through wild vegetation, trees and dry grass.
More information is expected as the firefighting operation remains fully under way.
