We are currently managing an emergency situation due to the multiple and long-standing issues that have arisen, the General Directorate of the Environment responds to a publication in philenews regarding the Pentakomo Waste Management Unit.

It adds that the proper operation and upgrade of the Pentakomo Waste Management Unit, within the framework of holistic and correct management of all waste management units and infrastructure, as provided for in the strategy followed, “is our top priority, and we are working diligently towards it.”

According to the General Directorate, the publication “describes a situation that has been operating incorrectly since 2017, due to the contractor’s inability to fulfil the provisions of the contract.”

It states that the state “made the brave decision to take over this unit, knowing that it was taking on a chaotic situation, in an effort to end the long-standing mistakes for which there are ongoing legal proceedings.”
