Eight young students with disabilities at Limassol’s Fifth Elementary School have been left with absolutely no assistance and their parents are crying out for help, Philenews reported on Wednesday.
One of the parents who asked for anonymity also said that assurances by officials had been given that there would be at least three escorts/chaperones at the special education unit.
Nonetheless, these children received absolutely no help and were basically ignored since day one of the new academic year.
Specifically, the parents rely only on the goodwill of the teacher of the special unit and a chaperone who carries out duties in another place and is called upon in an emergency to provide a solution.
Most of these children cannot even go to the toilet without an escort, the parent added.
Education Ministry insiders told Philenews that on Wednesday morning an escort specifically for the eight specific children will take up his/her duties.
In addition, the insider also said that parents have every right to be upset and referred to the recruitment of 96 persons on September 6. They will act as escorts nationwide.
