A Shahed drone responsible for striking a British military installation in the UK’s Akrotiri base in Cyprus earlier this week originated from Beirut, a Cypriot official told AFP on Thursday.
The attack, which occurred just after midnight on Monday, targeted a hangar at RAF Akrotiri.
The official, who provided the information on the condition of anonymity, identified the craft as a Shahed-type drone.
Following the initial midnight strike, two additional drones were detected at midday on Monday and successfully intercepted by British warplanes scrambling from the Akrotiri runway.
Iran’s proxy Hezbollah is operating from Beirut.
