The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow weather warning for severe thunderstorms and hail across Cyprus, effective from 12:00 noon until 6:00 pm today.

According to the official alert, “Isolated severe thunderstorms are expected to affect areas primarily in the mountains, inland regions, and northern and eastern parts of the island. Hail is anticipated during thunderstorms. Rainfall intensity is expected to range between 35 and 55 millimetres per hour”,

A weak low-pressure system is currently influencing the region, meteorologists report.

Today’s forecast indicates initially partly cloudy conditions that will gradually deteriorate from midday onwards. Cloud formations are expected to bring localised rain and isolated thunderstorms, primarily affecting mountainous areas, inland regions, and northern and eastern districts. Weather officials confirm that hailstorms may accompany these thunderstorms. The meteorological phenomena are expected to weaken by late afternoon.

Temperature readings will reach approximately 22 degrees Celsius inland, around 20 degrees in coastal areas, and approximately 8 degrees in higher mountain regions.

Tonight, weather conditions will become predominantly clear in most areas with some localised increased cloud coverage. Fog may form during early morning hours, particularly in inland and eastern regions.

The weekend forecast indicates that Saturday will begin mostly clear with some localised cloud coverage.

However, during midday and afternoon hours, developing cloud formations may bring isolated rain and potentially isolated thunderstorms, primarily affecting mountainous areas, inland regions, and eastern districts.

Sunday will see increased medium and high cloud coverage with occasional isolated rainfall expected throughout the day.

Monday’s weather is forecasted to be predominantly clear with increased medium and high cloud coverage.

Temperature patterns are not expected to show significant variation until Saturday, while gradual increases are anticipated through Monday, with readings remaining above the seasonal average.
