Various areas across Cyprus lost power shortly before 11am today, with problems reported in every district of the island.
Philenews has learned that the power outage was caused by a loss of communication between photovoltaic parks and the island’s energy distribution centre.
Power supply has since begun to be restored gradually through an alternative arrangement, and work is under way to resolve the communication issue between the photovoltaic parks and the distribution centre.
The Electricity Authority of Cyprus initially pointed to a problem in the generation system and identifyed the independent Transmission System Operator of Cyprus as responsible for addressing it. A TSOC official described it as a major loss of generation affecting a large number of consumers.
