Cyprus’s chief negotiator, Menelaos Menelaou, has reported that Friday’s session of the Cyprus Problem team was held in a “constructive and productive spirit” ahead of the upcoming meeting in New York on October 15.

Speaking after the session at the Presidential Palace, Menelaou stated that the group had a discussion in a “constructive and productive atmosphere”.

According to Menelaou, the team was briefed on the contacts made in New York, as well as on the upcoming trilateral dinner meeting.

The negotiator said that the President of the Republic will travel to New York early next week, “strengthened” as he himself mentioned after the National Council session, “so that we can have a positive outcome from the upcoming dinner”.

It is recalled that President Nikos Christodoulides had stated earlier this week that the Greek Cypriot side is preparing for his meeting with the Turkish Cypriot leader and the UN Secretary-General in New York.

He noted that the negotiator, Menelaou, after consultation with him, would call the Cyprus Problem team to meet on Friday for an exchange of views, following what was discussed at the National Council.
