Accept-LGBTI Cyprus has reported a verbal attack against the LGBTI community during a pre-Pride event, publishing video footage of the incident on social media.
A group dressed in black appeared at the event shouting offensive slogans against the LGBTI community, including “Unwashed and gay, you are not necessary,” according to the organisation’s complaint.
The protesters carried flags bearing double-headed eagles – symbols of Byzantine imperial and ecclesiastical authority – as well as Enosis flags.
Accept commented on the incident, stating: “Someone should inform the boys about current times because something went wrong in their history lesson at school and they don’t know what century they’re living in.”
Responding to the protesters’ slogan, the organisation added: “They should research what the psychological term ‘projecting’ means.”
