A vessel participating in the international flotilla bound for the Gaza Strip entered Cypriot territorial waters and requested permission to dock at Larnaca port, citing resupply needs and humanitarian reasons, the government announced.
The Republic of Cyprus responded “immediately and responsibly” by applying established protocols and procedures as required by law, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis said.
The decision to allow docking was expedited after authorities were informed that two passengers were facing chronic health problems requiring necessary care.

Vessel carried 21 people from EU and non-EU countries
The ship carried 21 people who were citizens of various states, including European Union member states and third countries, according to the spokesman. Competent authorities conducted identity checks, document verification and security inspections upon the vessel’s arrival.
An ambulance was called as a precautionary measure to assess the medical situation onboard. Medical personnel who examined the passengers determined that hospital transfer was not necessary.
Cyprus applies protocols under national and European law
Cypriot authorities ensured that the basic needs of the passengers were met and provided assistance on consular matters where deemed necessary.
The government emphasised that its response followed established protocols under both national and European Union legislation, balancing security requirements with humanitarian obligations under international law.
