The rejuvenation of the walled city of Nicosia got another major boost today as the contracts were signed for the infrastructure upgrade of the Ledras-Ariadnis multistorey parking in the historic centre of the capital.

As the Nicosia municipality said in a statement, the project includes a comprehensive makeover of all interior spaces, made up of seven floors, specifically two underground areas, a ground floor and three upper floors.

There are 158 spaces available, including 9 for the disabled.

Work will involve electromechanical upgrading and other improvements, such as new lighting, ventilation and fire safety systems, photovoltaics, a parking guidance system, new toilets, repainting, installing industrial floors and new horizontal signage.

The timeframe is ten months, in three phases and aimed at minimising major parking difficulties, with the goal of keeping the area open.

Three floors will close at a time for the project, opening alternately as work progresses.

The upgrading is part of a wider strategy of improving accessibility, operability and raising the standards of the walled city, the Municipality noted.

The contracts were signed by Nicosia mayor Charalambos Prountzos and Maria Rousia of 0C. Roushas Trading & Development Ltd.
