Investigations into classified documents found at a Central Prison guard’s home have taken a more serious turn, with police discovering hundreds of sensitive internal police documents among the seized materials.

Sources close to the investigation told philenews the documents include classified police files related to personal security, sensitive operational matters, and confidential internal communications, many bearing original signatures rather than copies.

Among the hundreds of documents seized by police officers, there are classified materials concerning internal police matters, mostly regarding personal security, case handling protocols, or other sensitive issues that periodically concerned the force, a source said.

The investigation has now expanded to examine periods before 2018 to determine how the prison guard obtained the documents.

Police have begun calling in officers named as senders in the documents to verify their authenticity and determine whether they were officially shared with the prison authorities.

Investigators are particularly focused on the presence of original documents bearing signatures of senior officials.

This discovery is considered a crucial element in tracing who had access to these files and why they were found in boxes at the guard’s residence rather than in official archives.

Former police chiefs who were the intended recipients of these communications are expected to be questioned about whether they received the documents and why originals were missing from official files.

Detectives from Police Headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department are working to establish connections and determine how documents from different sources ended up in the prison guard’s possession.

The investigation includes taking statements from prison personnel regarding document archiving procedures and whether copies of the seized materials exist in prison records.

Authorities confirmed no theft of documents from the Central Prison had ever been reported, despite several changes in prison management over the years.

The prison guard’s detention order expired yesterday, but officials opted not to seek an extension as he remains in custody until his June 24 trial on separate charges related to allegedly allowing an inmate to operate a “kiosk” within a prison wing.

Police are investigating the guard for abuse of power, breach of official secrecy, violations of data protection laws, theft by a public official, and illegal possession of property.

The investigation continues, with authorities deeming it unnecessary to bring the guard before the court again as he is already facing charges and has been suspended for three months.
