Cabinet approves national strategy for LGBTI rights

The Cabinet has given its approval to the creation of a National Strategy for LGBTI rights, aimed at aligning Cyprus’ legislation with European standards and addressing discrimination.

The project will be coordinated by the Commissioner for Administration and Human Rights, Panayiotis Palates. An inter-ministerial committee, including representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Education, Interior, and Health, will oversee the strategy’s implementation.

Additionally, the non-governmental organisation Accept-LGBTI Cyprus will be represented on the committee.

Academic experts will also be involved, appointed by the Commissioner for Administration and Human Rights with the approval of the Minister of Justice.

The National Strategy will focus on aligning Cypriot legislation with European Union directives, addressing discrimination, ensuring equality and security, and promoting an inclusive society for the LGBTI community.
