A bear reported to have escaped from Melios Zoo Park near Paleometocho has been found and safely returned to the facility, police confirmed on Saturday.
According to the latest police update, the zoo’s owner located the animal a short distance from the premises and brought it back to the park, where it is now safe.
Earlier, Paleometocho Community Council had issued an urgent warning to residents of the village and surrounding areas following reports of the bear’s escape.
The council urged people to exercise extreme caution, warning that the animal could pose a risk to public safety.
Residents were advised not to approach, chase or attempt to trap the bear.
The council had also recommended keeping children and pets in safe areas as a precaution.
