The village of Avgorou has been thrown into mourning following the death of 19-year-old Styliani Georgalli in a road collision on the Avgorou-Frenaros route.
Georgalli was en route to work at approximately 7 am when, under circumstances still under investigation, she lost control of her vehicle and collided with a protective railing on the left side of the road.
The impact of the collision proved fatal. Emergency services rushed Georgalli to Famagusta General Hospital in Paralimni, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Famagusta Traffic Police are investigating the incident. As part of their enquiry, they are conducting tests to determine whether the young woman was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
In response to the tragedy, the municipal department of Avgorou has declared three days of mourning and cancelled all scheduled events.
