The medical school of the Cyprus branch of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens has attracted heightened interest, according to Education, Sports and Youth Minister Dr. Athena Michaelidou.
Following the Cabinet meeting, the minister announced that the educational institution’s registration in the country’s university registry has been officially approved.
More than 300 applications have already been submitted for the 60 places to be offered, a fact that reflects the strong interest in the new EKPA branch in Nicosia.
Dr Michaelidou said all formal and substantive procedures have been completed and that the establishment of the branch is the result of the strategy for internationalising higher education.
The school is expected to begin operations at the end of October, whilst the prospect of expansion to Larnaca is also being examined.
School to operate in buildings provided by archbishopric and municipality
Regarding facilities, suitable buildings in the centre of old Nicosia have already been identified and inspected, which have been provided by the archbishopric and the municipality.
The school will offer undergraduate programmes in both Greek and English, whilst details on tuition fees will be announced by the university itself.
