The Independent Authority against Corruption has received the final report from the four inspection officers investigating journalist Makarios Drousiotis’s book ‘Mafia State’, and says its findings will not be made public before the May 24 parliamentary elections.
The report was delivered in electronic form by the April 30 deadline. It runs to approximately 3,000 pages including annexes, and was produced following 214 sessions and hearings, testimony from 150 witnesses, and the submission of 793 exhibits from 41 legal entities and government departments.
The Authority said it cannot comment on the report’s content until it completes its internal review. A working group has been established to study and evaluate the material.
All proceedings are being conducted under full confidentiality, as required by law. The Authority said the volume of the report makes it impossible to give a precise timeline, but its detailed public announcement will come before the end of June 2026.
The Authority moved to address suggestions that the post-election timing of its announcement is politically motivated. It stated explicitly that there is no connection between the May 24 election date and the fact that its announcement will follow it, noting that some have attributed ulterior motives to the delay.
It said any announcement before the completion of due process would be “extremely irresponsible,” and rejected calls to publish even partial results ahead of the elections. A previous Authority announcement attributed the delay in completing the report to health problems affecting two of the four inspection officers.
No member of the Authority will make any further statement on the matter beyond this announcement, it said.
As Philenews reported earlier today, the Authority had indicated it would release only the technical characteristics of the report on Tuesday — its volume, number of exhibits and number of witnesses — without disclosing any findings.
